The Andes Mountains The Andes Mountains are one of the longest and most magnificent mountain ranges in the world.It stretches over 7,000 kilometers over the west coast of the continent of South America through Ecuador (Hatheway).The Andes include many peaks over 20,000 ft above sea level with the highest peak at 22,841 ft named Aconcagua (Hatheway).It has some of the highest peaks behind the Himalayas.Many parts of this range receive a lot of snow fall and some glaciers (Hatheway).The mountain range runs through seven different countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela (Hatheway).This range greatly effect on the climate.To the west are more deserts and to the north is usually wetter.Because of the plates colliding, there are many earthquakes and volcanic eruptions in this area (Hatheway).
